The 2015 European U20 Women's Championship concluded yesterday with a win for hosts and tournament favourites Spain. Here's a complete round-up of the final day's results.

The tournament came to an end with the defending champions France forced to give up their crown to the home team, with this Spanish generation of '95 bringing their youth careers to a glorious end by adding the U20 title to those already won at U16 and U18 level. The tournament team was led by MVP and rising star Leticia Romero (Spa) who averaged 12.8 pts, 5.7 rebounds and 4.0 assists for the championships. She was joined by her teammate Laura Quevedo (9pts, 3.3 rebounds, 0.8 assists average), French guard Marine Johannes (10.6 pts, 4.3 rebounds, 3.1 assists) and her compatriot Aby Gaye (12.2 pts, 6.6 rebounds, 1.1 assists), along with Dutch forward Emese Hof (14.2 pts, 7.3 rebounds, 2.4 assists). The Ukraine, Czech Republic and Hungary all drop out of the Division A Championships next year, after filling the bottom 3 places and will be replaced by Bosnia & Herzegovina, Greece and Sweden, who are promoted from Division B. Match results were as follows.

  • Spain 66 - 47 France (Final)

MVP : Leticia Romero (Spa) 22 pts, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal

France gallantly held on for as long as they could, but were always playing catch-up against Spain's golden girls, who shot the ball better (43.6% to 34% from the field), made smarter choices in attack and hit big shots at crucial moments to break French hearts and put paid to any hopes Arnaud Gupillotte's team may have harboured of making a comeback.

  • Holland 63 - 51 Russia (3rd/4th place)

MVP : Janis Ndiba Boonstra (Hol) 22 pts, 14 rebounds, 2 steals

Shooting percentages were virtually identical for both teams (33.3% to 33.8%) as were rebounds (44 to 43), but Russia sent the Dutch to the line 22 times and were punished to the tune of 19 points, with Holland holding their nerve in the final quarter to take the bronze medal - the first major basketball medal Holland have ever won!

  • Italy 83 - 71 Portugal (5th/6th place)

MVP : Laura Ferreira (Por) 25 pts, 14 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals

Another excellent shooting performance from the Italians (48.3% from the field, including 55.2% 3-pt shooting with 16 of 29 triples made) with five of their squad contributing 10 or more points and their bench offering up an extremely healthy total of 34 points.

  • Slovak Republic 57 - 67 Poland (7th/8th place)

MVP : Aleksandra Wajler (Pol) 23 pts, 4 rebounds

Poland created better scoring opportunities with eighteen assists to the Slovaks' nine and they went on a 13-0 run in the 4th quarter to stretch away from their opponents.

  • Serbia 49 - 70 Turkey (9th/10th place)

MVP : Tilbe Senyurek (Tur) 10 pts, 17 rebounds

Turkey shot the ball better (44.1% to 32.2%) with Hulya Coklar once again proving invaluable to her team. They also dominated rebounds 49 to 30.

  • Belgium 57 - 55 Latvia (11th/12th place)

MVP : Hind Ben Abdelkader 30 pts, 2 rebounds, 2 assists

Tournament top-scorer Hind Ben Abdelkader made the final score of the game, hitting a big triple with a minute to play, and sealing the win for her team. Latvia attempted 21 3-pt shots in the game but could only sink 2 of their long-range efforts.

  • Germany 53 - 51 Hungary (13th/14th place)

MVP : Anna Degbeon (Ger) 6 pts, 17 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals

Hungary could only make a feeble 18/72 of their field-goal attempts and drop straight back to Division B next year, as the Germans beat them to the final place in next year's elite competition.

  • Ukraine 66 - 96 Czech Republic (15th/16th place)

MVP : Olga Yatskovets (Ukr) 22 pts, 10 rebounds, 4 assists

The Czechs scored 61 of their total in the second-half of the game and took advantage of 32 Ukrainian turnovers to leave their opponents winning the wooden spoon!

And that wraps up this year's tournament! Until next time - goodbye, hasta la vista, au revoir and auf wiedersehn!
